Video of Ken Wilber Stopping His Brain Waves
Here’s a youtube video of Ken Wilber doing something with an EEG machine - one of the early Mind Mirrors, from the look of the device. (not to be confused with Tim Leary’s Mind Mirror game)
It’s a shame that personal EEG machines are still so rare and expensive. They could be really useful to people who are studying their own minds, doing self-development practices, meditating, and so forth. If anybody knows of any sources for good EEGs below a thousand bucks, I’d be very happy to hear about it.
I looked around for links for buying a personal EEG like that last version of Mind Mirror, the Mind Mirror III, with no luck. This company, http://www.brainmaster.com/ looked the most promising - it looks like the Discovery channel’s Mythbusters used their machine for some tests.
Here’s some links and info on the Ken Wilber brainwaves video:
An Integral Naked page about the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFFMtq5g8N4
“Ken emphasizes that the patterns shown on this machine may or may not be typical, but they do emphasize that profound consciousness states can be evoked at will, and these show immediate correlation in brain-wave patterns.”
It’s a little dissapointing that the Integral Naked post ends with this line - “More seriously, as Ken often says, “If you want to know God, you’ve got to get your brain out of the way first. It’s just one big stupid filter….”".
That’s one of those things that sounds good, but, one can’t help but point out, that as far as we can know nothing without a brain can even formulate the concept of god, let alone “know God”. Certainly nothing without a brain can “know God” in the way that a human, with a brain, can.
Whatever “knowing God” is believed to mean.

Well then, make your own EEG!
It’s not too hard.
Here’s mine:

And I happen to be working on a Mind Mirror software design a la the one Ken Wilbur was demo’ing. That video was one of the things that got me rolling on this.

That’s beautiful. I think I remember reading that there was something like this at sourceforge. Still, it looks just a bit beyond my current comfort level at building electronic gizmos.
I’d been hoping that an eeg on a card, one that could be popped into a computer, would become available. I thought I’d read that there was a very simple one available some years back.
So, how happy are you with your device? Have you done anything intersting with it?
Thanks for the link and the photos, very nice.

Hey I’ve been looking for this video. I had seen it before but didn’t bookmark it at the time. So thanks for posting it.
I’m using the Brainmaster in my own research at Solexus Health Systems.
Here’s the link if you want to check out what I’ve been up to:
