| What is Telesterion? This Telesterion is a web site created by Bill Eichman.

Click on the ROSETTA STONE to
take a mini tour
presenting some of the origins and goals of Telesterion.
The word TELESTERION is the Greek name of a building in
ancient Athens, the home of the initiates who presided over the Eleusian mysteries.
More on this here.
The TELESTERION statement.
This is the most significant
spiritual realization of our time-- that we, humankind, are
large-brained animals who live on the surface of a planet.
Bill Eichman

A rather pretty planet in a minor solar system
of a minor galaxy in an observable universe of 100 billion galaxies.

Clicking on this image downloads a
large, hi-res version of the image above. Slow, but the detail is incredible.
These are galaxies, not stars, out at the far edge,
10 billion light-years away. What you can barely see is that every square centimeter of
this image is covered with tiny galaxies, tiny spots barely visible at this scale. At
least a hundred billion gallaxies can be seen with our biggest telescopes now, and there
may be more. This Hubble Deep Field South photograph gives a glimpse into the depth
and variety of galaxies we humans can now see.
The word TELESTERION
is the greek name of a building in ancient Athens, the home of the initiates who presided
over the Eleusinian mysteries.
Seeking a name for a web site which reflected my material and
point-of-view, and which had not already been taken at the interNIC name registry, I
discovered, working from the word TELESMA (which was taken), that other names based on the
greek TELE were still available.
Having previously decided that I would use the first name which
fulfilled my design requirements, I registered telesterion and thus, as with all things,
by a mixture of accident and intention Bill Eichman's Telesterion came into being.
Funny how accident offers such an interestingly suggestive name,
image, and historical reference, context, and tale. |
